About Me — Jon Cheng

I'm Jon, a softwareengineer from Toronto.I studied SoftwareEngineering at Waterloo,where co-op terms got mea head start in writingproductionlevel code.

I grew up takingthings apart,mostly for the funof smashing things apart,occasionally to putthem back together.Toys, keyboards,the family computer.That curiosity ledme to engineering,and I landed intosoftware development.

These days I tinkerwith small projectsseeing them throughfrom end to end.With React andNext.json the front,Python, Java andSQL in the back,I love the challengeof programming solutionsto real world problemsand creating toolscustomized totheir purposes.

Outside of work, I'moften behind a camera.I shoot on a Sony a7Cand keep too many photos,most of them stillwaiting to be sorted.The ones I likeend up on this site.I shoot film too butthats another thing entirely.

I also play music:a handful of instruments,none of them perfectly,all of them often.Some of it turns intosmall recorded projects.hopefully I'llshare them here tooeventually... maybe.

And there's a little samoyedwho sheds on everythingand has never oncelet me skip a walk.

When there's a chanceto travel, I take it.Most of my favouritephotos come from those.One day I'll have beento every continentand I'll make a photobook of all my journeys.

This site is whereI keep what I make:code, photographs,design and music.I built it myself, andit's never quite finished.I hope you enjoypoking around.
